    Arden? I think that I have told you before. The way that you tell people what they need to hear, as opposed to what they want to hear, really reminds me of my husband's personality! I think that you both do this because you want to help people become the best version of themselves. ...Not everyone likes to hear constructive criticism. Myself, I am grateful when people show me that they care enough about me to tell me the unsugarcoated truth. It is a tool for growth! Thank you, Arden! Love, Susan

    Hi, Arden! I wanted to say, this video has completely helped me! I think that I unknowingly had tongue tension. In these last couple of days, I have actually been putting the tip of my tongue in that pocket between my lower lip and bottom teeth. If you think of a pocket of air under your top lip, it is possible to do lip trills with your tongue behind your lower lip. It just takes a slightly faster stream of air to keep your lips vibrating. I am touching my neck to make sure that I don't start to push and create tension. This is undeniably working for me! It is basically teaching me how to change pitch using my breath support NOT tongue tension. I have discovered in the last couple of days that you can relax your tongue forward, relax your jaw down and back at the tmj joint, and raise your soft palate up all at the same time! For me, it works to imagine my tongue getting progressively longer and more relaxed the longer I sing the phrase. In my mind, it is almost like the down and out movement of my abdominals pulls my tongue down and out ever so slightly. And, an added benefit? I don't have to think SOOO much about one continuous motion until I release and let the air come in for the next phrase. I hope that this comment will help someone in your collective, Arden! THANK YOU so much!!! Love, Susan

      @@ArdenKaywinVocalStudio Thanks, Arden! I am practicing again today, and putting things together. You know how you had us go from the tonic, up to the 5th, and back to tonic to get this whole idea of one continuous motion, singing THROUGH each pitch change instead of landing on them during your appoggio bootcamp? Today, with my tongue in front of my bottom teeth, step one is singing a lip trill from the 5th down to tonic. Step two is to sing through the scale degrees from the fifth to tonic. I sing each note for around 3 seconds. My goal is to have the exact same feeling as I did when I went from the fifth to the tonic. Then I make 1 second triplets going up to the 6th scale degree in the middle of the first triplet, and repeat this melodic structure until I reach the tonic. It is 100 times easier to sing through the succession of pitches in one fluid motion with my tongue forward and out of the way! THANK YOU, Arden! Love, Susan

    Arden? Do you want to know something amazing? I have been going to counseling. My therapist has taught me how to put up firm boundaries, and my whole energy has changed. I have also realized that fear is a choice. Instead of being afraid, you can choose to see how good things have come out of bad situations. By not allowing fear to control you, it frees you up to love people for their potential, wholeheartedly! This feeling of happiness just because they are who they are would not be dependent on what happens in the future. By doing this work, focusing on growth BECAUSE you have gone through the sh** storms of life (Yes, you are absolutely right about owning it!), the process is helping my singing as well! I thought you would like to know this! Take care. Love, Susan

    Hi! I think I understand. Are you talking about letting it happen? Going into that place of trust, that you, with your life experiences, were put into this world for a reason? Maybe other people can grow, because your life, and your choices, helped them to see things differently. Maybe even learn from your mistakes. All of this would have nothing to do with proving your talent to the world. By all means, keep practicing, and keep growing through your challenges in life. But, when you sing, just allow the energy of the universe (or as I see things, God) to sing through you to make the world a better place, and heal people. Is this what you meant? Thank you so much for making this video!! Take care. Susan

    Arden? I have a very technical question to ask. When you stick your tongue out of your mouth and siren on an a as in cat 🐈, should there be a dip in the middle of your tongue? Or, should it be slightly arched? I just watched my tongue in a mirror, and mine is arched. Is that correct? Or, does it not matter, as long as you are thinking one continuous motion down and out with your support? Thank you in advance, Arden! Take care. Susan

    • @ArdenKaywinVocalStudio

      Ideally we want the tongue to be soft, wide and even..... so we wouldn't want there to be a dip.

    💯% accurate. I’m a voice teacher in Australia and it’s the number one thing I make sure my students understand and learn how to do - everything else is built on top of correct breath support. Correct INHALE / release, is a SEPARATE thing and must be done correctly BEFORE engaging the support muscles. Such a relief to know there’s at least one other teacher out there in the world who knows the importance of this. I can’t tell you how many students arrive for their first lesson with me … who have had lessons with other so called “singing teachers” who have not taught them this fundamental technique. Great work you’re doing here on You Tube, Arden. 👏

      Hi, Arden! In honor of today's Bootcamp, I have been watching the replay this morning! What stood out to me today was that you want to progressively flex more and more into the muscles of support in one continuous motion. I am practicing an exercise where I am in 3/4 time, and each quarter note is slightly slower than a beat per second. I am starting on the 5th scale degree, going up to the 6th and back down to the 5th, and doing the same melodic structure on the 4th, and 3rd, and 2nd scale degrees until I get to the tonic. By taking it that slowly, I can really focus my attention on flexing more and more as each note progresses forward in time. Vital to this whole thing is that you continue to flex into your muscles of support AS you siren in between pitches. In this way, you won't reset your support with each change in pitch. ...I hope that this comment will help someone in your collective! Break a leg, everyone! Its going to be great! Arden really knows what she is talking about! Take care. Susan Edit- if you need to release your body to let the air come in during this exercise, you don't need to do it all in one breath. Your goal is to progressively flex more and more into your muscles of support. Each note flows out from the previous note. I like to do this exercise on lip trills!

For me, I focused on NOT showing it in my body language! I pretended "Yep! That's exactly how it was supposed to go!" ;D ...You might get a kick out of THIS one! When I auditioned for AGT several years ago with "Let There Be Peace On Earth" I discovered part way through that I had my glasses on. BIG no, no! I was dressed in Renaissance costume, and they didn't even HAVE glasses back then! I said "Oh, CRAP! I've got my glasses on!" I took them off, put them down, and kept right on singing without missing a beat! LOL! If you can't laugh at yourself, there really isn't anyone to laugh at! Take care, Arden! Love, Susan Edit- Arden? I remembered what you said about Thomas Edison learning 1,000 ways how NOT to make a light bulb in my practice session this morning! You can learn from your mistakes! In so doing, I thought about perpetual motion in both the container of support and the tallness and resonance of the vowel. My goal was to just be a witness to this through my body. Not letting myself disrupt it. I counted. I was singing 16 to 20 second phrases! Its coming together! THANK YOU from the bottom of my heart!

      Hi! In some ways, Arden's personality is like my husband's. He tells people the truth so that he can help people become stronger, better versions of themselves. He tells people what they NEED to hear, as opposed to what they WANT to hear. Arden is this same way! When she is saying "Go to the data, not the drama" she is saying to not assign negative meaning to things. Think of trying situations as opportunities for growth. Don't let circumstances hold you back! Arden's heart is definitely in the right place! She wants to help people to grow. Things happen in life. Each person can decide for themselves how they will react. We can choose to empower ourselves! I honestly value people who will tell me about those areas in my life where I can make improvement! Take care. Susan

    Hi, Arden! It is a huge coincidence that you are talking about this stuff today! Several days ago, I dreamed that I was back at my first music school. I dreamed that people misinterpreted my motivation. My husband stood up for me, and said I am who I am. A few minutes later, Mister Man (our son) was inside the music building! We were all going to eat pizza together! ...I interpreted my dream as meaning that way back then, I didn't really know who I was. I thought that grand opera was what I wanted out of life. I hadn't realized as of yet what my TRUE purpose in life is. To make a difference in the world. ...I think that the reason why both my husband and our son were in my dream is because me and my husband try to help each other to become the best version of ourselves. We also try to help those Precious Little Ones become the best version of themselves. My GREATEST wish is for people who I love to learn from my mistakes! Have I gone through trying times? Yes. Maybe I had to go through those things to reach other people who are going through similar things... Thanks for making this video! Have a wonderful day tomorrow with your daughter! Take care. Love, Susan

      Hi! Today I am practicing "implode." I tend to change my support with each change in pitch. I thought about an infinite amount of air beneath my feet to inhale my voice from. Inalare la voce is exactly right! The longer the phrase lasted, the further down from beneath my feet I inhaled my voice from. Arden said in another video to sing on the gesture of the inhale. I focused on the feeling of continuing to inhale my voice. When you release your body to let the air come in for the phrase, its NOT like you inhale in 16th notes! Lol! You inhale with one continuous motion. I hope that this helps! Susan

    Wow- I never connected the two phrases Imposter syndrome =self doubt I have come a long way over the years in working through this. Technique from past vocal lessons greatly helped yet it was mainly my mindset that needed trained. I have finally worked through stage fright and am working toward being comfortable singing in coffee shops. Firm technique and being able to rely on the voice did wonders for my confidence. Past lessons came to fruition in your present workshops. I look forward to more workshops!

    • @kimcarson4219
      @kimcarson4219 Месяц назад

      It says basically don’t try to blast your notes out which also comes with using too much air for support. Imploding means the exact opposite, try to target your voice inside and if possible imagine it goes behind your head

    • @kimcarson4219

I was experimenting with the "sensation" of implode just now. For me, it was like my voice traveled upwards through my legs and torso, and up, and over the back of my head. IS this feeling what I should be aiming for? I thought to myself "inhale, continually inhale my voice upwards though my body in an open channel..."
